GIRDER IR SERIAL
Serial Watcher : 5 – GIRDER You have to download Girder in v3.1.x () and supported IR plug-in. You can find it on PCRemoteControl website, which is quit good but shareware. Other website indicated : SerialWatcher will show you if it works or not. You will choose standard drivers with windows "Generic IR Serial Port" added in msports.inf. Whil booting, windows will found a new peripheral and ask for the driver. Now you have to uninstall the current IR driver and reboot your computer as suggest the procedure. Irdasmc.iof (have constructor name) Oem11.inf (oem type file for installation in windows) Is backup this 2 files with their associated PNF files. I found 4 files and 2 seems to … be the good ones. Find this file in windows\inf with search option. Choose drivers page and write down files names. Then, go in peripherals manager (i don’t know proper term) and develop integrated IR. Open with notepad and modify : 1 - in section Add line : %*PNP0510.DeviceDesc% = ComPort, *PNP05102 - in section (bottom file) Add line : *PNP0510.DeviceDesc = "Generic Ir Serial Port" Save and quit notepad. Edit msports.inf file in windows (in windows\inf rep hidden in XP). Example : On my computer, I have to go in Advanced menu then in I/O Device Configuration Then, change the Serial Port B on Enabled and Mode on FIR instead of IRDA 4 – Installing the new the driver Now you have to edit windows files.
Check if it’s already active and if an option allows to change mode (FIR/SIR/IRDA/DIRECTIR) and choose SIR or DIRECTIR. (I think it’s COM 3 for W1N but I don’t know where it is in W1N BIOS. You could see that in the BIOS of your laptop, on COM 3.
GIRDER IR HOW TO
2 – Before starting - Not willing to use your IR port as IRDA (the protocol) for GSM or PDA - Having the possibility to configure your IR in SIR (serial IR) see further - Windows (don’t know how to do it for linux) - Edit windows configuration files 3 – Hardware configuration To make your IR port work with a remote, you have to configure it as a serial port. Technical differences with IR TV remote are : - Emission/reception cone is narrower than IR TV Remote - Higher signal frequency - Distance between source and destination is much more shorter Best conditions of use for a laptop : - Remote close to 2 meters (wrong for W1N) - Remote must be in the exact axis of the IR receptor ( also a bit wrong) - Not move while pressing the button => you have to press twice on the button to make it work. It is used for echange data with others peripherals with a 4Mbits bandwith. 1 – What you should know IR port shall not be considered as an IR remote receptor.
